Capella at Galaxy Macau public bookings available from late September

An official booking engine for the Capella at Galaxy Macau hotel is active and indicating it can accept bookings from the general public on September 23 at the earliest.

The only type of room available via the booking engine as of Thursday (July 10) was a one-bedroom suite, of 128 square metres (1,378 sq. feet), offered at a nightly rate of MOP24,898 (US$3,079) before tax.

That is based on GGRAsia’s review of the site that day. Capella at Galaxy Macau – an ultra-luxury and low-density hotel at the Galaxy Macau casino resort in Cotai – had a soft launch in early May, according to the whole complex’s promoter, Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd.

GGRAsia had previously approached Galaxy Entertainment seeking clarification on its public launch date for Capella at Galaxy Macau – a 17-storey hotel, featuring 36 villas and 57 “jungle-themed” suites – but it had said only: “We will keep you posted if there are any updates”.

GGRAsia understands from sources – that asked not to be identified by name – that so far guest rooms at Capella at Galaxy Macau have been offered by Galaxy Entertainment to its high-value gaming and non-gaming customers.

In a May 8 corporate statement, Francis Lui Yiu Tung, chairman of Galaxy Entertainment, was cited as mentioning that the Capella hotel would be “fully opened over the next few months”.

A memo issued at the time from brokerage Jefferies Hong Kong Ltd noted that a 30-table gaming floor within the tower of the hotel was “fully open”, and that food and drink outlets would be “ready by the end of the year”.

GGRAsia’s Thursday checks indicated the level of luxury associated even with a one-bedroom suite for Capella at Galaxy Macau. Such a suite with ‘Super King’ bedroom offers “24-hour butler service”; access to Galaxy Macau’s Grand Resort Deck; and complimentary round-trip hotel limousine service, as well as “exclusive access to Capella Living Room”.

The Capella brand is controlled by Singapore-based Capella Hotel Group, the parent of Capella Hotels and Resorts.

The hotel group said in a Wednesday update, that in April, “the brand opened Capella Taipei, marking its entry into Taiwan while Capella at Galaxy Macau will follow by the end of the year”.

Bookable dates in September are scarce for the public regarding rooms at Capella at Galaxy Macau, indicate GGRAsia’s checks. In that month, guest rooms were only available for booking from September 23 to September 25 inclusive, and on September 29. All those days are weekdays. For all those dates, the only room type showing as available via the booking engine is the “one-bedroom suite”.

The booking site shows no availability via that search engine during the first week of October, a period that coincides with China’s National Day holidays. Following that festive period, Capella at Galaxy Macau appears publicly-bookable via the booking engine for most dates within October, except for all weekends in that month.
