More than 850 participants joined the “SJM Employees’ Children Summer Programme” from SJM Resorts Ltd, the Macau casino operating unit of Hong Kong-listed SJM Holdings Ltd.
The initiative, described as a “series of enriching summer classes and activities”, was offered free of charge to children of company employees and their relatives. It began in July and concluded recently, according to an August 25 press release from the firm.
Activities spanned six categories: “sports, culinary arts, academic enrichment, creative science, cultural arts, and thematic experiential activities,” stated SJM Resorts.
“Targeting kindergarten and primary school students, the initiative aimed to encourage youngsters to utilise their summer leisure time to explore interests and unlock potential,” said the update.
The programme delivered a total of 46 classes – described as a 15 percent increase on the 2024 edition. The attendance this time by more than 850 participants was up 30 percent year-on-year, “demonstrating enthusiastic engagement,” said the company.
The sports programme offered not only various ball games but also popular dance and children’s yoga.
In culinary arts classes, children got the chance to make desserts, bread and other delicacies, which they were allowed to take home.
Academic enrichment extended beyond traditional subjects, continuing last year’s popular English game-based learning courses “to enhance capabilities through edutainment,” said the update.
Creative science featured science workshops, mechanical projects using Lego, and robotic construction.
Cultural arts classes included painting, and learning about magic tricks, as well as “junior” master of ceremonies skills and modelling workshops.
Thematic experiential activities encompassed not only picture book storytelling and children’s aerial dance but also family activities such as the “Drunken Dragon Culture Family Experience Day” and “SJM x Macau Cruise Family Experience Day”, enabling families to engage in cultural tourism initiatives sponsored by the SJM group, said the the firm.
“The company regularly conducts parental education programmes, family competitions, and seasonal events alongside its summer classes, while providing scholarships to outstanding children of staff members,” stated the casino operator.
Such effort was “demonstrating SJM’s profound commitment to valuing both employees and their families, and thereby making a meaningful contribution to Macau’s development,” added the company.
