DigiPlus launches surety bond in bid to strengthen player protection

Philippines-listed DigiPlus Interactive Corp has announced what it described as the “Philippines’ first-ever” surety bond programme for online gaming players. The programme, developed in partnership with the Philippine First Insurance Co Inc (PhilFirst), sets a “new benchmark in player protection,” stated DigiPlus in a Thursday filing.

In the Philippines, DigiPlus is licensed to offer the digital entertainment platforms BingoPlus, ArenaPlus, and GameZone. The filing stated that the programme “takes effect immediately”.

According to the announcement, the programme brings “more peace of mind” for players, “as long as their electronic know-your-customer (KYC) information is up to date, and they continue to play within the platform’s guidelines”.

Via the partnership, the surety bond protects player balances of up to PHP1 million (US$17,526) per player, “without requiring customers to purchase a separate policy,” said the update.

The announcement cited DigiPlus chairman, Eusebio Tanco, as saying that the company was “proud to be the first in the industry to roll out this level of consumer protection”.

He added: “We are committed to putting our players first. With this surety bond, they can play confidently on BingoPlus, ArenaPlus, and GameZone, knowing that their funds are safeguarded.”

In mid-August, DigiPlus reported first-half net income of PHP8.40 billion, up 60.9 percent from a year earlier. Total revenues for the six months to June 30 rose by 46.7 percent year-on-year, to nearly PHP47.78 billion.

The company is also moving forward with its plans for international expansion. DigiPlus is set to launch on September 22 its online gaming operations in Brazil, and it also aims to expand into South Africa.
