Closure of Melco’s Mocha Kuong Fat completed in an orderly way: Macau regulator

The Mocha Kuong Fat slot parlour, run by a unit of Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd, closed permanently in the early hours of Thursday, confirmed Macau’s casino regulator, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, a body also known as DICJ.

Melco Resorts closed earlier this week the Grand Dragon Casino, a satellite operation located in Taipa.

The casino firm had announced in June that the satellite casino venue would close before year-end. It also said at the time that it would cease business at three small slot parlours including Mocha Kuong Fat, that are part of a chain of Mocha-branded venues using Melco Resorts’ gaming licence.

Thursday’s official closure of Mocha Kuong Fat followed “established procedures,” the regulator said in a written announcement.

The shutdown was overseen by the regulator, “which coordinated closely with multiple government departments to ensure legal compliance” and was carried out in an “orderly manner,” it added.

Following the slot parlour’s final business day, at 11:59pm on Wednesday, the regulator monitored the removal of gaming equipment from the premises and conducted other formalities.

Melco Resorts had previously stated that the electronic gaming machines from the Mocha Clubs that are closing “will be reallocated” to the group’s casinos at Altira Macau in Taipa, and City of Dreams and Studio City, in Cotai, as approved by DICJ.
