The Macau authorities have announced a raft of changes in the government, as André Cheong Weng Chon (pictured in a file photo) is to step down on October 16 as Secretary for Administration and Justice, according to a Monday statement.
Mr Cheong has been appointed by Macau’s Chief Executive, Sam Hou Fai, as a member of the city’s Legislative Assembly, said a separate Monday announcement. Mr Sam appointed on Monday seven legislators, completing the city’s 33-member legislature following the election held on September 14.
Wong Sio Chak, who has served as Secretary for Security for more than 10 years, is to become Secretary for Administration and Justice, with effect from October 16.
Replacing Mr Wong as Secretary for Security, from that same date, will be Chan Tsz King, who – since December last year – has been Prosecutor General of the Public Prosecutions Office.
Prior to being named Prosecutor General, Mr Chan was head of Macau’s Commission Against Corruption (CCAC), between December 2019 and December 2024.
As per Monday’s announcement, Tong Hio Fong has been nominated as the new Prosecutor General.
Mr Tong, who holds a law degree from the University of Macau, has been since October 2022 president of Macau’s Court of Second Instance, where he has served as a judge since October 2013.
