Genting Singapore Ltd, controller of the Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) casino complex in Singapore, has announced the imminent appointment of veteran casino executive Chen Si (pictured in a file photo) as chief operating officer (COO) at its business unit Resorts World at Sentosa Pte Ltd. The appointment takes effect from December 1.

According to a Monday filing to the Singapore Exchange, Mr Si will assist the property’s chief executive, Ms Lee Shi Ruh, in managing and developing its core businesses.

Mr Si is currently the CEO and representative director of gaming and tourism complex Inspire Entertainment Resort in Incheon, South Korea. He leaves there at the end of November, according to a separate statement from the latter.

The hiring of Mr Si for Resorts World Sentosa marks a “continued focus on leadership renewal and sustained operational performance as the resort advances its transformation under RWS 2.0”, the Genting Singapore said in its Monday statement. The group is opening new attractions this year, as part of Resorts World Sentosa’s expansion, known as RWS 2.0.

The latest update also mentioned: “Mr Si brings nearly two decades of international experience in the gaming and hospitality industry. He has held senior leadership roles in integrated resorts across the region, where he led operations, marketing and the implementation of key strategic initiatives.”

Mr Si joined Inspire Entertainment Resort as its chief operating officer in August 2022, a role that he held until July 2023.

He was its president and representative director from July 2023 to February this year, subsequently becoming the Incheon property’s chief executive and representative director, according to Genting Singapore’s Monday announcement.

Prior to working in South Korea, Mr Si had been working for circa seven years in the Macau market. He was a vice president of international marketing at Sands China Ltd from May 2015 to September 2020. Afterwards, he joined hotel and casino services firm Macau Legend Development Ltd as executive vice president and head of casino and hotel, a position that he held until July 2022.

Mr Si had been a director of player development at Marina Bay Sands – the Singapore casino complex run by Las Vegas Sands Corp and market rival in the Lion City’s casino duopoly – from July 2014 to May 2015.
