The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (Pagcor), the country’s gambling regulator-cum-operator, has linked with the country’s National Privacy Commission (NPC) on initiatives to strengthen data privacy in the gaming industry.
The partnership was formalised via a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed by the two on Monday, Pagcor said in a Tuesday release.
Pagcor stated it would work with the NPC on implementing “joint programmes on privacy awareness, capacity building and policy development” for such matters for the gaming sector.
The tie would pave the way for “full development” of a database of Philippine-government officials and employees prohibited from gambling in casinos and other gaming establishments in the country, Pagcor’s chairman and chief executive Alejandro Tengco (pictured, right) remarked as cited in the release.
“This MOU with the NPC is a vital step in aligning Pagcor’s policies and processes with the evolving data privacy landscape,” Mr Tengco said.
The Pagcor chairman also remarked that the move “reinforces our duty to protect personal information while ensuring that our operations remain transparent, compliant and trustworthy”.
Inter-agency cooperation was “crucial” in protecting personal data, especially for industries that handle “large volumes of sensitive information”, said NPC Privacy Commissioner and chairman John Henry Naga (pictured, left) in prepared remarks included in Tuesday’s release.
