The Macau slot hall Mocha Hotel Royal, run by a unit of Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd, will cease operations at 11:59 pm on December 28, the casino firm said in a Tuesday announcement.
The Mocha Hotel Royal – part of Melco Resorts’ network of Macau-based slot-machine parlours – is located on Macau peninsula.
Melco Resorts closed on Monday (November 24) its Mocha Grand Dragon Hotel slot hall.
In September, the casino firm had shut down the Mocha Kuong Fat slot parlour, and the Grand Dragon Casino, the latter a satellite operation located in Taipa.
The gaming group had announced in June that the Grand Dragon Casino and three of the group’s slot parlours would shut down before year-end.
In Tuesday’s press release, Melco Resorts said the closure procedures of Mocha Hotel Royal would be implemented in compliance with existing legislation.
The shutdown is to be overseen by Macau’s casino regulator, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, a body also known as DICJ.
All electronic gaming machines at Mocha Hotel Royal “will be reallocated” to the group’s other casinos in Macau, “as approved by the DICJ,” noted Melco Resorts.
The company also said local employees currently at Mocha Hotel Royal would be “reassigned to continue performing their duties at other casinos and gaming areas” operated by Melco Resorts, according to the firm’s “operational needs”.
That is in order to ensure a “smooth transition and the continuity of their employment,” according to the update.
The casino firm also said that all customers’ rights would be “safeguarded after the cessation of the operation” at Mocha Hotel Royal.
“Customers of the Mocha Hotel Royal will be able to continue to use their gaming slips … at the Altira Casino, Mocha Inner Harbor, Mocha Golden Dragon and Mocha Sintra Hotel,” added the company.
In a Tuesday release, Macau’s casino regulator said it would maintain “close communication” with the city’s Labour Affairs Bureau regarding Melco Resorts’ pledged relocation of the “64 workers” employed at Mocha Sintra Hotel.
The regulator also said the official closure of the Mocha Grand Dragon Hotel followed “established procedures”.
Following that slot parlour’s final business day, at 11:59pm on Monday, DICJ said it monitored the removal of gaming equipment from the premises and conducted other formalities.
The shutdown was overseen by the regulator, “which coordinated closely with multiple government departments to ensure legal compliance”, and with all procedures carried out in an “orderly manner,” it added.
