Macau satellite casino promoter Emperor Entertainment Hotel Ltd reported an interim loss attributable to its owners of nearly HKD57.4 million (US$7.4 million) for the six months to September 30. The figure compared with a loss of HKD177.9 million in the prior-year period.

Revenue for the latest reporting period fell by 17.7 percent year-on-year, to HKD335.6 million, stated the company in a Wednesday filing to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

Emperor Entertainment’s adjusted segmental earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation, and amortisation were HKD45.2 million in the six months to September 30, most of it from Macau operations. Such segmental EBITDA was down 54.6 percent from a year earlier.

Gaming revenue declined by 29.7 percent year-on-year, to HKD177.9 million.

Outside of the reporting period, the casino at the Grand Emperor Hotel, in Macau’s central business district, stopped operating at 11.59pm on October 30.

The gaming venue operated under the licence of SJM Resorts Ltd, a unit of Hong Kong-listed SJM Holdings Ltd.

Emperor Entertainment operates a second hotel in Macau, called Inn Hotel, but that property does not have gaming facilities. The group also has hotel operations and serviced-apartment business in Hong Kong.
