Macau might record 1.42 million to 1.5 million visitor arrivals during this year’s Chinese New Year festive break, said on Tuesday Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, director of Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO).
On the Chinese mainland, Macau’s main tourism feeder market, the public-holiday period for the lunar new year spans nine days this time.
Speaking to local media on the sidelines of a Tuesday event, Ms Senna Fernandes said her office expected a daily average of 158,000 to 175,000 arrivals during the festivities.
China’s State Council has designated the break as running from Sunday February 15, to Monday February 23.
The 1.42-million to 1.5-million forecast, if realised, would represent a circa 8.4-percent to 14.5-percent growth from the 1.31 million visitor tally recorded in the 2025 holiday season. That time there was an eight-day break, from January 28 to February 4 that year.
In her Tuesday remarks, Macau’s tourism boss also mentioned her office anticipated 41 million visitor arrivals for full-year 2026.
That estimate represents a circa 2.3-percent increase on the 40.07-million visitor arrivals for the last calendar year.
A Macau government focus for inbound tourism this year would be promotion of the city in international markets, including in the Middle East, Ms Senna Fernandes stated.
