Five of Macau’s six gaming concessionaires have issued statements saying they are with effect from Sunday (March 1) extending eligible-staff paid maternity leave to 90 days from 70 days.
They are: Sands China Ltd, which made its announcement on Thursday, Wynn Macau Ltd, Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd, MGM China Holdings Ltd, and Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd.
Four of the five mentioned a minimum of a year’s service at the company as a condition for the enhanced maternity leave.
Four of the five companies also announced paid paternity leave would rise to seven days, from five days, with effect also from March 1. Wynn Macau Ltd said it had introduced seven days of paid paternity leave in 2018 as a “pioneering move”.
Wynn Macau Ltd added in its press release: “The company believes that these enhanced maternity and paternity benefits will further promote a family-friendly corporate culture, provide more comprehensive support for parents welcoming newborns, and help team members achieve a more meaningful balance between work and family life.”
Galaxy Entertainment said in its statement that “over the years” it had been “committed to promoting a family friendly workplace through a variety of initiatives,” including “comfortable breastfeeding facilities in back-of-house areas,” for new mothers returning to the workplace.
The firm added: “Galaxy Entertainment will continue to review and enhance employee benefits in line with Macau’s social development needs, fostering a more harmonious and supportive work culture.”
MGM China cited Wendy Yu, executive vice president of human resources, saying: “MGM continues to cultivate a supportive, caring, and family-friendly workplace for our team members, while actively responding to and supporting the [Macau] Special Administrative Region government’s fertility-related policies through practical initiatives.”
Melco Resorts quoted Lawrence Ho Yau Lung, chairman and chief executive, as saying: “We are deeply committed to providing an exceptional working environment, and we are pleased to offer these enhanced maternity and paternity benefits as part of our core family-friendly policies.
“We will continue striving to be an employer of choice by supporting our colleagues in achieving a healthy balance between work, family, and personal wellbeing.”
