Casino group Genting Malaysia Bhd says it has signed a memorandum of understanding with AGIBOT Innovation (Shanghai) Technology Co Ltd with the aim of advancing “embodied artificial intelligence (AI) robotics across the hospitality, entertainment and leisure industries”.
The gaming firm’s flagship property is Resorts World Genting (pictured in a file photo), a monopoly casino operation in Malaysia. The group also runs casinos in the United Kingdom, Egypt, the United States and the Bahamas.
Resorts World Genting’s chief operating officer, Aaron Chia Khong Chid, said in prepared remarks that the collaboration would allow the casino firm to take a meaningful step into the world of embodied robotics.
“We believe this initiative will open new opportunities to redefine how guests interact with our spaces while strengthening our position as a forward leader in the tourism industry,” Mr Chia stated.
Under the agreement, the two sides will focus on developing robotics products for theme parks; leisure and hospitality operations; and entertainment.
That will include “development of humanoid robots for guest interaction” and “concierge and service functions, as well as robotics integration in live shows and immersive attractions”.
The collaboration will also cover joint research and development, pilot projects, and the creation of “scalable application ecosystems”, according to the announcement.
AGIBOT will also launch what was described as Malaysia’s first “Robotics Gala Performance”, with its debut due at Resorts World Genting in early 2027.
It “will feature cutting-edge AI robots in a live performance setting, offering audiences a first-of-its-kind immersive entertainment experience in the country,” per the update.
AGIBOT president of the Middle East and Asia Pacific Region, Abel Deng, said in prepared remarks: “The upcoming Robotics Gala Performance at Resorts World Genting marks just the beginning; together, we are building a scalable ecosystem in which humanoid robots enhance human experiences in meaningful and compelling ways.”
