Macau could report about 10-percent year-on-year growth in visitor arrivals during this year’s “summer holiday” season, according to Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) director, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes.
Speaking on Sunday, Ms Senna Fernandes said she was hopeful the growth momentum seen in the first four months of 2026 would continue into the summer holiday period, traditionally a peak season for the local tourism industry, according to the Chinese-language radio service of public broadcaster TDM.
Macau recorded an aggregate of nearly 14.66 million visitor arrivals in the January to April period, an increase of 13.1 percent from a year earlier, showed data from Statistics and Census Service.
Such growth was driven by a 15.7-percent year-on-year increase in the number of visitors from mainland China – Macau’s largest source market – totalling 10.79 million in the four-month period.
Ms Senna Fernandes also highlighted her office’s interests in attracting more visitors from Thailand. She said MGTO was encouraging visitors to consider multi-destination itineraries linking Macau with cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.
According to official data, visitor arrivals from Thailand increased by nearly 60 percent year-on-year in the January-to-April period, reaching 88,819.
Macau received nearly 1.01 million visitors from international markets in the first four months of this year, i.e., those from outside the Greater China region. The international visitor arrival tally was up 10.7 percent from a year ago.
South Korea and the Philippines remained the two largest international source markets, contributing 225,541 and 183,293 visitors respectively. Arrivals from those markets increased by 7.7 percent and 8.0 percent year-on-year during the period.
