South Korea’s Kangwon Land Inc, operator of a resort with the country’s only casino permitted to serve locals, has launched an employee climate action campaign aimed at promoting carbon neutrality and strengthening an environmentally-friendly corporate culture.
The initiative, held in mid-July, coincided with the seasonal increase in electricity demand during summer, and encourages staff to adopt practical measures to reduce carbon emissions in their daily lives, according to a recent announcement.
The firm said the campaign forms part of its participation in the country’s Climate Action Preparatory Committee, an initiative overseen by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, supporting efforts to tackle climate change through everyday actions.
Campaign booths were set up at the company’s headquarters in Gohan and at the employee cafeteria of the Grand Hotel. Displays introduced staff to the government’s “10 Climate Actions” guidelines, outlining practical steps to reduce environmental impact. Employees were also encouraged to make a climate action pledge via a QR code.
The operator complemented the campaign with an engagement event for staff. Employees completing the pledge were invited to take commemorative photo booth pictures with colleagues, highlighting their commitment to climate-friendly behaviour.
The event also involved children from the High1 Daycare Centre, the company’s workplace childcare facility. Kangwon Land Inc said the participation of the children highlighted the importance of promoting carbon neutrality for future generations, with employees joining them in pledging to help build a greener future.
Nam Han-gyu, the firm’s interim chief executive, was cited in the release as saying that the campaign was designed to encourage employees to take the lead in fostering an environmentally-conscious workplace culture.
He also said the company would continue to expand its environmental, social and governance ESG initiatives “for local communities and future generations”.
