The average occupancy rate for Macau’s five-star hotels in June was 89.6 percent, down 4.6 percentage points (ppts) year-on-year.
The average nightly rate dipped 1.8 percent year-on-year, to MOP1,443.6 (US$178.7). That is according to information from the Macau Hotel Association, published by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO).
The survey collected data from 49 association-member hotels, 28 of which are five-star properties. Most of the latter are within casino resort complexes. The remaining association members – in either the four-star or three-star category – include some hotels that are within casino resorts.
The average nightly rate for the four-star and three-star categories also saw year-on-year decline in June. The four-star average was MOP1,011.1, down 5.1 percent. The three-star average was MOP855.2, down 4.9 percent.
Across the first six months this year, the average five-star rate was MOP1,519.2, little changed from the MOP1,523.7 average cost a year ago. First-half average occupancy for the tier was 93.6 percent, down 0.9 of a percentage point year-on-year.
The average nightly rate for the five-star hotel rooms surveyed in the January to June period remained 5.6 percent lower than the same period in the pre-pandemic year of 2019, when it had stood at MOP1,608.6, according to the association’s data.
Across all hotel categories, the average January to June room rate declined 0.6 percent year-on-year to MOP1,355.3.
Five-star hotels dominate Macau’s hotel market. As of May – the most recent figures available – the city offered 25,800 five-star rooms, 57.5 percent of the total 44,900 guest rooms across all categories. That is according to the city’s Statistics and Census Service. The number of Macau five-star rooms declined 1.6 percent compared with May 2025.
