Two men have been arrested on suspicion of complicity in the stealing of near SGD60,000 (US$42,908)-worth of gaming chips from the casino at the Marina Bay Sands resort (pictured) in Singapore.
The city-state’s Today newspaper reported that the suspects – aged 36 and 40 – were detained by officers from the Casino Crime Investigation Branch. The property was developed and is managed by Las Vegas Sands Corp.
Elsewhere the Singapore media additionally reported that – prior to casino resorts being legalised in that country in 2006 – the Singapore government had considered, then rejected, a plan to build a 1.6-hectare (4-acre) gaming resort on the small island of Pulau Sejahat, just off the Changi area of Singapore Island, near where Singapore Changi Airport is located.
