Tourist arrivals to Macau during the Christmas period – defined as December 20 to December 26 inclusive – rose 9.9 percent year-on-year, according to data from the city’s Public Security Police released on Tuesday.
The tourist arrival tally for the period was 1,087,867, showed information taken from the seven immigration checkpoints serving the territory.
The bulk of arrivals to Macau during the festive period, including those of Macau residents – journeys not counted under the tourist arrivals heading – took place at the Border Gate on Macau peninsula, which links the city with neighbouring Zhuhai in Guangdong province.
There were a total of 1,181,598 arrivals at the Border Gate, out of an aggregate of 1,649,497 arrivals by all travellers to the city during the period.
The second most popular arrival point was the Macau Maritime Ferry Terminal at the Outer Harbour, which recorded 196,683 arrivals during Christmas, with the Pac On Temporary Ferry Terminal at Taipa the third most popular arrival point, with 105,489 arrivals of tourists and locals.
The Lotus Bridge crossing point – linking Hengqin Island to Macau’s Cotai district and its large casino resorts – was in fourth spot with 84,041 arrivals of all kinds. Macau International Airport was the fifth most popular entry point, with 59,489 arrivals by travellers of all kinds.
