Satisfaction among tourists, regarding Macau’s casinos, fell in the fourth quarter of 2015 to the lowest level since the end of 2011, shows the latest Macao Tourist Satisfaction Index.

The sub-index measuring such sentiment dropped to 67.6 points in the final three months of 2015, down from 70.0 points in the previous quarter. The sub-index stood at 70.3 points in the fourth quarter of 2014.

It was the lowest level on record since the fourth quarter of 2011, when the sub-index measuring tourist satisfaction with casinos stood at 66.1 points.

The results were released earlier this month. No explanation was provided for the drop in satisfaction among visitors regarding the city’s casinos.

The overall Macao Tourist Satisfaction Index also dropped in the fourth quarter of 2015, from 69.6 points in the previous three months to 67.8 points.

The Macao Tourist Satisfaction Index is compiled quarterly by the Tourism Research Centre at the city’s Institute for Tourism Studies. It includes a total of 10 tourism-related sectors. Approximately 100 visitors are surveyed per sector each quarter, with interviews conducted at major tourism sites and transport hubs.

The index uses a zero to 100-point scale. The higher the index, the more satisfied the tourists are considered to be.
