Paulo Martins Chan (pictured), director of Macau’s casino regulator, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, is to speak on May 18 at the Global Gaming Expo (G2E) Asia 2016 in Macau.
The latest edition of the casino industry trade show and conference marks the 10th anniversary of the event. It will take place from May 17 to May 19 inclusive.
Mr Chan will speak on the topic “Transformation in changing conditions”. His remarks will be made to all conference delegates at the beginning of the afternoon conference session on May 18.
Prior to the speech, Mr Chan will attend a G2E Asia 2016 invitation-only networking luncheon for gaming regulators, according to Reed Exhibitions Greater China. Reed Exhibitions is a joint organiser – alongside the American Gaming Association – for G2E Asia.
“I am very excited about this year’s conference with a lot of content on business diversification, and we are glad to have Mr Chan… who will be joining us to kick start the diversification [conference] session,” said Josephine Lee, executive vice president of Reed Exhibitions Greater China, in an email to GGRAsia.
The trade show and conference represents the regional industry and not just Macau. But even in the current relative downturn of the Macau market, the city remains the largest single-jurisdiction casino market by gross gaming revenue (GGR) in the world.
The city’s accumulated GGR for full year 2015 stood at MOP230.84 billion (US$28.9 billion), despite falling 34 percent judged year-on-year.
The G2E Asia 2016 conference is devoting a day-long programme to the topic “Opportunities for integrated resorts: gaming and retail working hand in hand”.
This to “support the Macau government’s ambitions in strengthening the gaming industry as Macau transitions into a premier leisure tourism destination,” said Reed Exhibitions in a statement.
The Macau government and the central government in Beijing have said they wish to see “moderate economic diversification” in the Macau economy, including more non-gaming attractions and a greater number of long-haul tourists from overseas.
G2E Asia 2016 will host 180 exhibitors, a 12 percent increase from the previous year, the statement from Reed Exhibitions said. A total of 40 percent are first-time exhibitors, added the co-organiser. There will be a total of more than 9,200 square metres (99,000 sq feet) of exhibition space.
The event is expected to welcome more than 700 VIPs and buyers, in addition to 10,000 general visitors from across the Asia Pacific region and beyond.
