The head of Macau’s Transport Bureau, Lam Hin San, hopes that by the year 2023 the city’s six casino operators will be exclusively using clean-energy vehicles in their shuttle bus services for customers.
He noted – in comments to reporters on Thursday – that the local gaming industry had made a commitment to the government that at least 15 percent of the passenger buses run by each casino licensee would be powered by clean-energy sources – either electricity or compressed natural gas – by May 1 this year.
“Implementation of this plan is progressing at an ideal pace,” Mr Lam said, quoted by local media.
He stated that by 2021 all casino firm-operated shuttle buses were expected to be compliant with the so-called “Euro V” standard or above.
Euro V refers to a scale of emission standards for acceptable limits for exhaust emissions of vehicles, set by the European Union. The scale varies from Euro I (the least stringent level) to Euro VI.
There are currently around 430 shuttle buses operated by casino operators in Macau, according to Mr Lam.
