GigaMedia launches Asia-facing social casino platform

Taiwan-based online gaming supplier GigaMedia Ltd has launched its first Asia-facing casino platform. Launched in Taiwan, Fortune888.com.tw (pictured) is an open platform that aims to create a new distribution channel for game developers targeting Asia, using a revenue share model.

The platform currently features a selection of play-for-free social casino games from MicroGaming Software Systems Ltd, Nasdaq-listed GigaMedia said in a press release.

In December, the company plans to offer a complete, proprietary solution. Called ClubOne, it will include a “broader variety” of play-for-free social games developed by the firm.

The solution is designed to function across different platforms and enhance player monetisation, GigaMedia said.

Players can invite friends via social networking services and through personal contact lists and can also manage and promote their own club to win virtual rewards that can be converted for use on third-party properties.

After Taiwan, GigaMedia is eyeing to expand its social casino platforms to mainland China.

“We believe a platform of play-for-fun games that have the look and feel of Vegas and Macau casinos will appeal to a large pool of players in China, including many who may want to play on our platform between the trips they make to play for real-money at physical casinos in Macau and Vegas,” company investor relations director Brad Miller said during the company’s second quarter conference call in July.
