Meg-Star launches VIP poker club at Macau Roosevelt

Macau junket investor Meg-Star Group says it launched on Friday a new VIP poker club at the casino inside the Macau Roosevelt Hotel in the city’s Taipa district. The poker room – dubbed “Poker Time Club” (pictured) – occupies the entire area previously allocated to the casino’s mass-market segment, said Meg-Star in a Saturday press release.

The club has five ring-shaped VIP rooms, an open-air lounge and what is described as a “collection-class watch theme” appreciation area, according to the statement.

The promoter said additionally that the new club is the first large Texas Hold’em poker club in the world offering what it termed a “top-level watch appreciation service”. Meg-Star said it has partnered with Switzerland’s watchmaker the Swiss Time Group to create the Poker Time Club.

Meg-Star’s chief executive Ben Leong and the group’s brand ambassador Cheung Chi Lam, as well as a director of Swiss Time Group, Michael Zhao, attended Friday’s opening ceremony.

The casino at the Macau Roosevelt Hotel operates under the licence of Macau casino operator SJM Holdings Ltd. The casino is officially called Casino Jockey Club, as it is technically a relocation of a now-closed gaming facility at the nearby horse-race track.

Another Macau junket investor, Tak Chun Group, has been running the VIP operations at the Macau Roosevelt casino since May last year. With the launch of the new VIP poker club, the casino at the property is solely focused on the VIP gaming segment.
