The Casino Royale gaming property in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu has resumed operations after being given clearance by the country’s Supreme Court, reports the Himalayan News Service.
The national government had previously decided to shut down 10 casinos located in five-star hotels across the country, claiming they had failed to pay royalties owed to the authorities.
According to the latest report, Casino Royale remained shut for nearly six months even after it had cleared its dues. Nine casinos are still closed, “but they have still not shown readiness to clear their outstanding taxes,” reported the media outlet.
The venue’s website says that during normal operations the casino is open 24 hours per day and offers the live dealer table games of roulette, blackjack, pontoon, baccarat and kitty, as well as slot games.
In July, Nepal’s finance minister had said the closed gambling venues would be allowed to recommence operations “soon”.
