United States-based casino operator Las Vegas Sands Corp says Lawrence Jacobs will step down on September 29 from his position as the group’s executive vice president, global general counsel and secretary. Mr Jacobs is described by the company as being responsible for the leadership and oversight of the group’s legal affairs around the world.

Mr Jacobs has been Las Vegas Sands’ executive vice president and general counsel since September 8, 2016 and has been the firm’s secretary since November 2016.

Las Vegas Sands is the parent of Macau casino operator Sands China Ltd, and is also the parent of the operator of the Marina Bay Sands casino resort in Singapore.

The information regarding Mr Jacobs’ departure was disclosed in a Friday filing to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

“The position of executive vice president, global general counsel and secretary will be assumed by D. Zachary Hudson on September 30, 2019,” said Las Vegas Sands. “Mr Jacobs will assist with the transition in an advisory capacity,” it added.

Mr Hudson is currently the general counsel of Afiniti Inc, a developer of artificial intelligence software based in the United States.

Afiniti’s corporate website says that Mr Hudson was previously a practising lawyer at Bancroft PLLC, and had also served as a law clerk to Chief Justice John Roberts, in the Supreme Court of the United States, and Judge Brett Kavanaugh of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

In June, Las Vegas Sands had announced an amendment to certain terms of Mr Jacobs’ employment contract, as the company said it wished to retain the executive beyond July 31, 2019.

The company said at the time that the two parties had agreed to the amendment to provide for “an orderly transition” of Mr Jacobs’ duties and to allow the executive to depart earlier than anticipated in their original agreement.
