Austrian gaming technology supplier Novomatic AG says it has achieved responsible gaming accreditation for its gaming-related operations from the Global Gambling Guidance Group (G4).

G4 is an organisation that aims to minimise the impact of problem gambling by promoting a worldwide accreditation programme for operators and suppliers in the gaming industry. It was created by a group of professionals described has having several years of experience working with the gambling industry worldwide to encourage responsible gaming.

In a press release last week, Novomatic said the certification underlined the firm’s “position as a provider of responsible gaming”. Such certification also “confirms the effectiveness of Novomatic’s technology offered around the world to improve player protection,” it added.

Novomatic says it has locations in more than 50 countries, and exports electronic gaming equipment to more than 70 countries. The company said it operated about 260,000 gaming terminals and video lottery terminals across an aggregate of 2,100-plus gaming operations.

Novomatic said the group itself and a number of its subsidiaries had “successfully undergone the strict G4 certification process,” while work to certify other companies was “already underway”.

The release quoted Novomatic chief executive, Harald Neumann, as saying: “We are proud to be the first Austrian and only company worldwide to receive the coveted G4 award in the most important business segments of the gaming industry.”

He added: “We have a special responsibility and will certify the majority of our business in line with the strictest player protection standards around the world.”

According to the release, G4 independently assessed Novomatic and confirmed that it complies with the organisation’s requirements of providing responsible gaming tools. The certification must be renewed every two years, said the group.

Ynze Remmers, lead auditor at the Global Gambling Guidance Group, said in a prepared statement: “Novomatic has set itself apart from the rest by not merely announcing comprehensive and effective player protection, but instead by having it externally audited in line with our strict criteria and by committing to continuous improvement on the basis of our recommendations for future recertification.”
