Suncity US$1mln in protective gear for Luzon hospitals

The Suncity junket brand has donated PHP50-million (nearly US$1-million) worth of personal protective equipment for use in 40 public hospitals tackling Covid-19 infection cases on Luzon Island in the Philippines.

A Sunday press release from the country’s casino regulator, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (Pagcor), said the consignment consisted of 50,000 items comprising protective suits, N95 face masks, medical face masks, medical goggles, medical gloves and medical shoe covers. The items were turned over to the hospitals on Saturday.

Pagcor added the gesture came following a request from Westside City Resorts World Inc, a co-licensee of Travellers International Hotel Group Inc, to the developer of a new casino scheme in Manila.

Suncity-linked entity SunTrust Home Developers Inc is to lease the Westside City site near Manila Bay for use as a casino resort. Travellers International also runs the Resorts World Manila casino resort in the capital. The latter venue is currently closed – along with other large-scale private-sector casino resorts in Entertainment City – due to an anti-virus lockdown in Metro Manila, due to last at least until May 15.

Sunday’s press release quoted Andrea Domingo, the head of Pagcor, as saying “fortunately” the Suncity brand had “immediately responded” to the Westside City Resorts World request for help.

The document said the equipment was distributed with the help of the Resorts World Philippines Cultural Heritage Foundation Inc, and Pagcor.
