Vietnamese airline Sun PhuQuoc Airways, controlled by local conglomerate Sun Group, is to launch on March 29 its first international route, connecting Phu Quoc and Taipei in Taiwan.
It follows Sun PhuQuoc Airways’ receipt of the required certification from the Taiwan Civil Aeronautics Administration. That is according to respective statements by the air carrier and Sun Group.
Phu Quoc is an island off Vietnam’s south-west coast and forms part of Kien Giang province. It is home to the Corona Resort & Casino, one of two existing casino complexes in the country – alongside the Grand Ho Tram casino resort – currently permitted to offer gambling to economically qualified local residents.
Sun PhuQuoc Airways’ owner Sun Group is also the promoter of a new casino resort in the Van Don Economic Zone in Quang Ninh province. Construction work began last month.
According to an August statement by Sun Group, the Van Don project is to be included in the pilot scheme permitting Vietnamese nationals to gamble at selected casinos. The Van Don complex casino component is scheduled to be inaugurated in 2028.
Sun Group said in a statement that, “to ensure effective market entry and strong distribution in Taiwan, Sun PhuQuoc Airways has appointed Hongyi Travel Service as its general sales agent.”
It added: “With 38 years of experience in international travel, Hongyi is one of Taiwan’s leading and most reputable travel companies, boasting a strong distribution network and stable customer base.”
The statement said Sun PhuQuoc Airways plans to expand its international network from early in the second quarter of 2026, launching routes to Busan in South Korea, Singapore, Bangkok in Thailand and Hong Kong, followed in the third quarter by services to India’s Mumbai and New Delhi, and Kaohsiung in Taiwan.
