Kangwon Land Inc has issued images of its plans for an under-construction new building – including a second casino – at Kangwon Land, the only resort in South Korea with a casino permitted to serve locals. The update mentioned a likely launch for the new facility in early 2028.
GGRAsia had reported in April that the target date for completion of the second casino structure, was the end of 2027. The firm now says the new building is likely to open in early 2028.
The freshly-released renderings show a distinctive building with a flying gable (pictured, above), sometimes called a ‘prow roof’, and with nearby water reflecting the geometry of the design.
The rendering of the interior (pictured, below) shows a high vaulted ceiling to the gaming floor.
The pictures were supplied to GGRAsia by Kangwon Land Inc, at our written request, after a company update to South Korean media.

The second casino building will have five levels – two basement floors and three above-ground floors.
The venue will have casino and non-casino areas, with the latter providing space for food outlets, and for other non-gaming attractions and activities.
The update reiterated the second casino would add 50 tables and 250 gaming machines to the overall gaming inventory, taking the entire resort’s table count to 250, and its gaming machine tally to 1,610
The announcement also said the new building would cover 18,430 square metres (198,379 sq. feet).
An expansion of Kangwon Land’s gaming facilities was authorised in principle by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in September 2024.
Kangwon Land Inc’s board approved in December 2024 an investment of KRW179.6 billion (US$129.9 million currently) for the second building. At that time it mentioned 5,748 sq. ms of “operational space”, which was to include more casino facilities, a shopping mall, and a theatre, as well as food and drink facilities.
