Macau casino concessionaire Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd (GEG) says it stepped up its responsible gaming (RG) initiatives during the period of this year’s FIFA World Cup football tournament, rolling out a series of activities aimed at employees, young people, and the community as a whole.
Galaxy Entertainment said that prior to the tournament – from April onward – it had worked with a number of local social service organisations in Macau to coordinate and support responsible gaming events designed to promote “rational entertainment”, with a particular focus on young people.
Such efforts included the “GEG Responsible Gaming Promotional Programme: Football World Cup Series”.
Under that initiative was the “World Cup Goal Challenge: Clear Eyes, Responsible Plays”, organised with the Sheng Kung Hui Macau Social Service Coordination Office, according to a recent press release.
The activities, held in back-of-house areas at Galaxy Macau complex and StarWorld Hotel, combined interactive games, educational displays and onsite counselling services to help employees better understand the risks associated with gambling disorder and recognise when support may be needed.
Galaxy Entertainment also took part in the “RG Man Competition – World Cup Special Edition,” organised by the Macao Leisure Industry Employees Home.
The company subsequently deployed team members to promote responsible gaming messages to residents and visitors through community outreach activities during the football tournament.
The month-long World Cup competition concluded on July 19.
The casino operator said it also supported a responsible gaming forum theatre programme, “Gambling on the Line”, organised by Bosco Youth Service Network – FREEland and co-organised by the Macao University of Tourism.

Other activities included support for the Macao New Chinese Youth Association’s “Smart Sight MAX” online campaign and participation by Galaxy Entertainment’s football and volunteer teams in community sporting events promoting healthy lifestyles and responsible gaming.
The gaming concessionaire said it has recorded more than 250,000 participations by team members in responsible gaming training and promotional activities since 2008. It added that nearly 140 employees from more than 10 departments have obtained government-recognised responsible gaming certification.
