Galaxy Entertainment volunteers help with home-safety checks on elderly locals

Macau casino firm Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd has arranged for a group of its employees to visit and help some local elderly people that use the “Peng On Tung” tele-assistance service, a system run by the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macao (UGAMM).

The visits were organised to give extra assistance to the local community in the aftermath of Super Typhoon Ragasa.

The city’s weather forecaster raised the highest tropical storm warning – Signal No.10 – in the early hours of September 24 as Super Typhoon Ragasa was at its closest to Macau.

The city has five levels of tropical storm warning. They range from 1 (the lowest and least intense) through to 3, 8, 9 and 10 (the highest and most dangerous).

The Macau authorities downgraded the maximum storm signal to Signal No.8 at 4pm on September 24, and lowered it to Signal No.3 at 11pm.

“Various sectors of the community actively cooperated and worked together to enhance public safety, supporting post-typhoon efforts to assist with the city’s orderly recovery and return to daily life,” stated Galaxy Entertainment in a press release.

According to the update, the company’s volunteers visited on September 25 “the homes of several single-living elderly and other Peng On Tong users”.

During the visits, Galaxy Entertainment employees delivered a care package to each household.

“Professional technicians were also arranged to conduct safety inspections of electrical appliances and power systems, reflecting Galaxy Entertainment’s commitment to actively support the community through practical action and genuine care,” said the casino firm.

Prior to the storm, Galaxy Entertainment, in coordination with Peng On Tung, arranged for its employees “to make caring calls” to over 100 Peng On Tung elderly service users, to share important safety information on precautionary measures and evacuation guidelines.

The announcement cited a Galaxy Entertainment employee that took part in the initiative as saying: “Through these activities, I was able to offer my support and contribute to the community’s typhoon preparedness and relief efforts. More importantly, I truly felt the spirit of mutual support among colleagues and a strong sense of unity with the social service teams as we worked together to safeguard our community.”

Galaxy Entertainment said it has, since 2010, continuously supported Peng On Tung, “making multiple donations to UGAMM’s Peng On Tung Charity Foundation to assist financially disadvantaged users in obtaining Peng On Tung’s services, embodying the spirit of mutual support”.
