Francis Lui Yiu Tung (pictured), chairman of Macau casino operator Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd, has entered the top 10 of the 2025 Forbes list of ‘Hong Kong’s 50 Richest’.
“Francis Lui and family” are ranked number nine, with an estimated net worth of US$9.4 billion, according to the list published on Thursday by Forbes magazine.
Mr Francis Lui became chairman of Galaxy Entertainment in December, after the death of his father, the founding chairman, Lui Che Woo, in November. The late founder of the group had been ranked seventh on last year’s Forbes list, with a net worth of about US$12 billion.
Ranked at three on the 2025 list is “Henry Cheng and family”, with a net worth of US$19.5 billion, down from US$22.1 billion in 2024.
Hong Kong-headquartered and privately-held Chow Tai Fook Enterprises Ltd, which is linked to the Cheng family, is an investor in the Destination Brisbane consortium that has a stake in an Australian real estate development at Queen’s Wharf, Brisbane, Queensland. That complex is the location of The Star Brisbane casino resort that began a phased launch in August.
Chow Tai Fook Enterprises also has ties to VMS Group, a Hong Kong-based private equity investment company said to control 75 percent of Hoi An South Development Ltd, the promoter of the Hoiana casino complex in Hoi An, on Vietnam’s central coast.
Cheng Yu-tung, the father of Mr Henry Cheng, had been a long-time investor in Sociedade de Turismo e Diversões de Macau SA (STDM), the parent of Macau casino operator SJM Holdings Ltd, founded by Stanley Ho Hung Sun.
At number 22 on the 2025 Forbes list of Hong Kong’s 50 Richest is Pansy Ho Chiu King, a daughter of Mr Stanley Ho. Her latest net worth is put at US$3.9 billion, up from US$3.8 billion last year.
She holds a substantial stake in Hong Kong-listed Macau casino operator MGM China Holdings Ltd, and is its chairperson and an executive director.
At the time of the company’s interim report in September, her personal holding and those of companies controlled by her, amounted to 22.49 percent of MGM China’s issued share capital.
Ms Ho is also chair of Shun Tak Holdings Ltd, a Hong Kong-listed property developer in Hong Kong and Macau. The company runs ferries between the two places, operates hotels, and has also developed real estate.
At number 37 on Hong Kong’s 50 Richest for 2025 is Angela Leong On Kei, fourth consort of the late Mr Stanley Ho. Her net worth is put at US$2.3 billion, down from US$2.4 billion last year.
At the time of the interim report issued in September by SJM Holdings, Ms Leong was the beneficial owner of an 8.54 percent stake in the company. She was also listed as a co-chairman and director.
As per that filing, she also had a 6.86 percent interest in the issued share capital of the group’s parent, STDM.
According to Forbes, the combined wealth of tycoons on the 2025 list of Hong Kong’s 50 Richest edged up to US$301 billion, from US$296 billion last year.
Li Ka-shing continues to hold the top spot with his fortune up slightly to US$37.3 billion, from $36.2 billion. Real estate magnate Lee Shau Kee remains the city’s second-richest person, with a net worth of US$29.2 billion, an increase from US$27 billion a year ago.
