Resorts World Genting, Malaysia’s monopoly casino resort, hosted in September the second edition of the Genting SustainBiz F&B Expo, held at Genting International Convention Centre.
The two-day event “featured in-depth panel sessions, thought-provoking keynotes, curated business-matching opportunities and showcases of sustainable innovations,” said the gaming complex’s promoter, Genting Malaysia Bhd.
Nor Yahati Binti Awang (pictured centre), Deputy Secretary for Environmental Sustainability at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, officiated the opening ceremony of this year’s event.
In her speech, she highlighted the importance of collective action across industries to achieve Malaysia’s sustainability goals, emphasising the government’s commitment to supporting platforms that foster innovation, collaboration and long-term environmental stewardship, according to the announcement.
The inaugural edition of the event was held in September last year, featuring the signing of five memorandums of understanding, worth MYR12 million (US$2.9 million currently).
“Building on the success of its 2024 debut, Genting Sustainbiz has quickly established itself as a flagship platform for sustainability in the region,” stated the casino firm in a Friday press release.
A “major highlight” in this year’s edition was the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Resorts World Genting and the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA).
Under the partnership, MATTA will serve as a strategic partner for Genting Sustainbiz 2026, “with its sustainability-focused programme – the Malaysia Ecotourism Sustainability Initiative (MESTI), set to be a key highlight of the event”.
Leaders in the sustainability field approached three main topics as this year’s event: responsible development, biodiversity protection, and resource efficiency.
Spencer Lee, executive vice president of sales, marketing and public relations at Resorts World Genting, said in a speech at the opening ceremony: “Sustainability is more than reducing our footprint, it is about creating long-term value in a rapidly changing world. At Resorts World Genting, we view it as both a responsibility and an opportunity to shape a better future.”
He added: “Through Genting Sustainbiz 2025, we demonstrated how sustainable practices can drive innovation and resilience, while supporting the aspirations of Truly Malaysia 2026 and reinforcing the nation’s position as a forward-looking leader in sustainable progress.”
