January casino sales at Grand Korea Leisure Co Ltd (GKL), an operator in South Korea of foreigner-only casinos, reached nearly KRW36.60 billion (US$25.3 million), a 6.6-percent increase from a year ago, according to a filing to the Korea Exchange on Tuesday.
Judged sequentially, Grand Korea Leisure’s casino sales last month were up 0.8 percent.
In January, table-game sales were just above KRW33.08 billion, 5.3-percent higher than a year ago, but flat month-on-month.
Machine-game sales last month were KRW3.51 billion, an increase of 19.9 percent year-on-year, and up 8.7 percent sequentially.
Grand Korea Leisure runs three foreigner-only, Seven Luck-branded, casinos. Two are in the capital Seoul, including one at Gangnam. Its third is in the southeastern port city of Busan.
The casino firm is a subsidiary of the Korea Tourism Organization, which in turn is affiliated to the country’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
In January, Grand Korea Leisure’s three casinos reported aggregate casino drop of KRW306.03 billion, an increase of 14.7 percent from a year earlier, but down 7.4 percent month-on-month.
The Seoul Gangnam casino was the largest contributor to group-wide casino sales in January, showed a separate set of data. It generated nearly KRW16.87 billion in casino sales last month, while Seoul Dragon City casino recorded just under KRW13.69 billion in casino sales. The Busan Lotte casino reported sales of KRW6.04 billion in January.
