A wheelchair fencing team from Grand Korea Leisure Co Ltd (GKL), an operator in South Korea of foreigner-only casinos, hosted in January a four-day one-point lesson event at the Daejeon University Fencing Training Centre. The initiative aimed to promote wheelchair fencing and sports among students, the casino firm said in a press release.
A one-point lesson focuses on the fundamental objective of a fencer scoring a single touch by landing their weapon on a valid target area of an opponent.
Grand Korea Leisure’s team provided basic training, individual one-point lessons, tactical training, and performed actual matches to a total of 26 participants, including five wheelchair fencers from the Daejeon area and 19 members of the Daejeon University fencing team. The team shared their expertise and experience from international competitions.
Grand Korea Leisure established a wheelchair fencing team in May 2016.
The recent announcement cited Grand Korea Leisure’s chief executive, Yoon Doo-hyun, as saying:“Grand Korea Leisure will continue to fulfill its social responsibility as a public enterprise and dedicate itself to creating diverse social value, including promoting sports for people with disabilities and fostering mutual growth with the local community.
The company runs three foreigner-only, Seven Luck-branded, casinos. Two are in the capital Seoul, including one at Gangnam. Its third is in the southeastern port city of Busan.
The casino firm is a subsidiary of the Korea Tourism Organization, which in turn is affiliated to the country’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
