Grand Korea Leisure Co Ltd, an operator in South Korea of foreigner-only casinos, reported casino sales of almost KRW30.64 billion (US$22.3 million) in May, according to a Wednesday update filed to the Korea Exchange.
The latest monthly tally was up 4.0 percent from a year earlier, but down 15.3 percent from April.
In May, table-game sales were just under KRW27.11 billion, up 1.9 percent year-on-year, but a 17.5-percent decline month-on-month.
Machine-game sales last month were nearly KRW3.53 billion, a 24.1-percent increase from a year ago, and 6.3-percent higher than in April.
Grand Korea Leisure runs three foreigner-only, Seven Luck-branded, casinos. Two are in the capital Seoul, including one at Gangnam. Its third is in the southeastern port city of Busan.
The company is a subsidiary of the Korea Tourism Organization, which in turn is affiliated to the country’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
In the five months to May 31, Grand Korea Leisure’s aggregate casino sales were up 12.5 percent year-on-year, to nearly KRW175.06 billion.
In the January to May period, the firm’s “drop” – the amount paid by customers to purchase gaming chips – declined by 7.7 percent year-on-year to about KRW1.44 trillion.
Grand Korea Leisure posted a first-quarter net profit of nearly KRW16.11 billion, up 57.9 percent from a year earlier.
