Casino equipment and game technology developer Light & Wonder Inc says it had made “significant progress” last year regarding the group’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) programmes.

In a press release announcing the publishing of its 2023 Global Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report, Light & Wonder said it contributed US$2.3 million in total donations, contributions and sponsorships last year.

The gaming supplier also “volunteered approximately 16,000 hours to 289 charitable organisations” during 2023, it added.

Matt Wilson, Light & Wonder’s president and chief executive, said in prepared remarks that the group had “moved into an exciting new phase” of its ESG programmes.

“We continued to advance our initiatives and see promising results,” he added. “I couldn’t be prouder of the way our 6,000-plus team members continued to play their part in helping us build a diverse and welcoming business equipped for long-term success.”

Tracy Skenandore, the firm’s vice president of corporate social responsibility, was cited as saying: “At Light & Wonder, we’re ‘changing the game’ for our people, our planet, our players and the communities where we live and work.”

She added: “The Game Changers programme is our guiding light and the way we hold ourselves accountable for driving positive, lasting change.”

Light & Wonder’s 2023 CSR report details the company’s “progress and key successes throughout the past year as well as its future goals”.

The company said it established last year an “ESG Council”, doubled the membership of its “Employee Resource Groups”, and reclaimed about “US$13-million worth of materials from decommissioned gaming machines for refurbishment or recycling”.
