Light & Wonder, Spintec ready to enter live dealer ETG segment in Macau

Gaming technology supplier Light & Wonder Inc and electronic casino table game maker Spintec d.o.o are two companies with plans to enter Macau’s live dealer electronic table game (ETG) market. The two gaming manufacturers separately told GGRAsia they plan to deploy products that have already been approved by Macau’s casino regulator, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, a body also known as DICJ.

In a written reply, Light & Wonder confirmed that it intends to install the firm’s Obsidian product, in either a hybrid or stadium configuration. The supplier displayed the Obsidian ETG terminal at the Global Gaming Expo (G2E) Asia 2025 casino industry trade show, held in Macau in May.

“Obsidian Hybrid or Obsidian Stadium is the product that we will be utilising as we enter the Macau live dealer ETG market,” said a Light & Wonder representative in a statement to GGRAsia.

“We have just received approval on version one of this software set and cabinet from DICJ,” the person added. “We do intend to install Obsidian Hybrid on gaming floors in Macau in the near future.”

Separately, a list from Macau’s regulator showed that Spintec’s ETG products Aura, Charisma and Karma were approved in August this year for distribution in the local market.

A Spintec spokesperson told GGRAsia that “all” of the group’s cabinets and machines were “compatible with dealer-operated gaming set-ups”.

“We have every intention of implementing them in Macau live gaming floors. However, we will gladly implement any additional requirements the customer might request,” noted the Spintec representative.

The live dealer-operated ETG segment in Macau has been dominated by gaming technology provider LT Game Ltd. The company – a unit of Hong Kong-listed Paradise Entertainment Ltd – is well-known for its live multi-game (LMG) product in stadium format, featuring rows of gaming terminals linked to live-dealer operated baccarat tables.

In a ruling dated July 30, Macau’s Court of First Instance said a key patent that LT Game held for its flagship LMG product “must be declared null and void”. The court also ordered the “cancellation” of the patent’s respective registration.

That key patent – which covers the use of multiple terminals for electronic casino table games that involve a human croupier – is set to expire in October next year. In Macau, an invention patent is protected for 20 years from the filing date of the application, as per the existing legislation.

LT Game, which has been the sole provider of LMG systems and terminals in Macau for a number of years, confirmed to GGRAsia that it is appealing the court’s ruling.

The court case had been part of a wider dispute – dated back to 2009 – between LT Game and Light & Wonder, formerly known as Scientific Games Corp.
