Macau gaming tax revenue tops US$5.27bln in first 5 months of 2026

The Macau government collected just over MOP7.65 billion (US$1.12 billion) in fiscal revenue from gaming in May, according to the latest data released by the city’s Financial Services Bureau.

The figure was down 15.7 percent from the MOP9.07 billion logged in April, the data showed.

For the first five months of 2026, the gaming tax tally reached MOP42.52 billion, a 21.9-percent increase from a year earlier.

Under Macau’s 10-year gaming concession system that started on January 1, 2023, the effective tax on casino GGR is 40 percent.

The latest data from the Financial Services Bureau show that gaming taxes accounted for nearly 87.5 percent of the Macau government’s MOP48.62 billion in current revenue recorded in the five months to May 31.

The tax-take figures for a given calendar period and the city’s casino GGR during the same time frame are not directly comparable for several reasons.

These include the fact that there is typically a delay between the point at which GGR is recorded by Macau’s casino operators and the point at which the government registers the corresponding tax payment.

The Macau government expects nearly MOP92.53 billion in revenue from gaming taxes this year. The tally in the first five months this year represented nearly 46.0 percent of that amount.
