The Macau government has appointed veteran civil servant Ng Wai Han (pictured in a file photo) as the director of the city’s casino regulator, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ). The news was in a Wednesday dispatch issued on behalf of the city’s Secretary for Economy and Finance.
Ms Ng’s one-year appointment term is effective from Wednesday.
She was most recently director of the city’s Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau, a post that she held since September of 2023, the dispatch stated. Prior to that, she had spent most of her more than two-decades-long civil service career at the Labour Affairs Bureau.
“Ng Wai Han has the professional competence and aptitude to perform the role of Director of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, which is demonstrated by her curriculum vitae,” stated Macau’s Secretary for Economy and Finance. Tai Kin Ip, in prepared statement included in the Wednesday dispatch.
Mr Tai’s portfolio includes overseeing the city’s gaming sector.
Secretary Tai said at a Wednesday swearing-in ceremony for the new director, that among her duties would be: “Strict supervision of compliance by concessionaires with investment commitments in non-gaming elements provided for in the concession contract” documents.
The role of gaming bureau director had been vacant since the previous holder of the office, Adriano Marques Ho, assumed on December 20 a new position as the director-general of the Macau Customs Service.
In January, Lio Chi Chong, a deputy director of the casino regulator, had been named acting director of the body.
