The Macau government collected just over MOP77.47 billion (US$9.68 billion) in fiscal revenue from gaming in the first 10 months of this year, up nearly 6.1 percent from a year earlier, according to the latest data released by the city’s Financial Services Bureau.
The October figure from gaming tax was nearly MOP7.06 billion. That was based on casino gross gaming revenue (GGR) of MOP18.29 billion in September, a tally that was up 6.0 percent year-on-year.
Under Macau’s 10-year gaming concession system that started on January 1, 2023, the effective tax on casino gross gaming revenue (GGR) is 40 percent.
The latest data from the Financial Services Bureau – issued on Monday – show that gaming taxes accounted for nearly 83.7 percent of the Macau government’s nearly MOP92.60 billion in current revenue recorded in the calendar year to October 31.
Macau GGR hit nearly MOP24.09 billion in October, the best monthly figure since October 2019.
The tax-take figures for a given calendar period and the city’s casino GGR during the same time frame are not directly comparable for several reasons. These include the fact that there is typically a delay between the point at which GGR is recorded by Macau’s casino operators and the point at which the government registers the corresponding tax payment.
