Macau’s visitor arrivals amounted to just over 3.09 million in April, a 18.9-percent increase from a year ago. The increase was led by a surge in the number of same-day trippers, show data from the Statistics and Census Service published on Wednesday.

April’s day-tripper volume rose by 30.1-percent year-on-year, to nearly 1.76 million. It accounted for 56.8 percent of the city’s aggregate for the month.

The number of overnight visitors in April grew by 6.9 percent year-on-year, to just under 1.34 million, according to the latest data. The average stay length of this type of visitor was 2.3 days.

About 68.7 percent of Macau’s visitors in April – i.e., 2.13 million – were from mainland China, up 22.4 percent from a year earlier. Mainlanders travelling via Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) visas accounted for about 1.06 million arrivals, up 34.1 percent year-on-year.

In April, Macau received 230,014 visitors from international markets, up 10.4 percent year-on-year. The top three sources out of the international markets were the Philippines (43,097 visitors); South Korea (37,215 visitors); and Thailand (20,463).

In the first four months of 2025, Macau welcomed nearly 12.96 million visitors, 12.9-percent higher than in the prior-year period.

Same-day visitors (7.58 million) and overnight visitors (5.38 million) grew by 23.4 percent and 0.8 percent, respectively.
