The Marina Bay Sands casino complex (pictured) in Singapore says it will launch an “environmental awareness and action” campaign at the property from May 31 to September 14.
“Sustainability advocates and individuals can embark on eco-conscious journeys and partake in a dynamic series of environmental-themed activities across the integrated resort,” said the resort’s promoter in a press release.
The campaign is to be held concurrently to “Go Green SG”, an initiative promoted by the city-state’s Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, and which Marina Bay Sands says it is supporting “for the third consecutive year”.
The announcement cited Meridith Beaujean, executive director of sustainability at Marina Bay Sands, as saying: “As the impact of climate change intensifies globally, Marina Bay Sands has been making strides in challenging environmental targets and driving innovation across key areas such as food waste and circularity throughout the integrated resort, going the extra mile to reshape the future of hospitality.”
She added: “Go Green SG is a national movement that we have been supporting since day one, and we are proud to offer wide-ranging activities and promotions once again, to kick-start more awareness and conversations on sustainability.”
The campaign features “major new interactive installations, fun educational workshops, and empowering film programmes” at the complex’s ArtScience Museum.
From May 31 to September 14, the ArtScience Museum will be hosting the Southeast Asian premiere of “Artland”, an installation created by South Korean artist Do Ho Suh and his children.
After an extensive revamp, the ArtScience Museum’s permanent exhibition “Future World: Where Art Meets Science” is reopening from May 31, with “new and upgraded artworks” by international art collective teamLab.
Marina Bay Sands will also present “Drawn to the Wild”, a new educational workshop at “Digital Light Canvas” by teamLab.
A “Sustainable Futures Film Festival” – featuring seven films – will debut at the end of June at the ArtScience Cinema. From June 29 to July 30, “visitors can catch award-winning cinematic stories about the deep yet fragile connection between nature and humanity,” said the announcement.
According to the release, retail tenants at Marina Bay Sands will also be “doing their part to promote sustainability, as part of Go Green SG”.
Marina Bay Sands, promoted by Las Vegas Sands Corp, is one half of Singapore’s casino duopoly. The resort had a soft launch in April 2010, and its full opening was in June 2010, meaning it is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year.
The venue’s management said in a recent social media posting that Marina Bay Sands had passed a 500-million-visitors milestone.
