Melco Crown Entertainment Ltd has confirmed in an email to GGRAsia that major Hollywood names – including actor Robert De Niro, an investor in the Nobu chain of restaurants and hotels that will have a hotel at Melco Crown’s City of Dreams Manila – are to make a film promoting the casino firm’s resorts.
“I can share with you the statement from the producer of the short film,” said Maggie Ma, of Melco Crown: “RatPac Entertainment is producing a short film being directed by Martin Scorsese that will be used as a campaign for Lawrence Ho and James Packer’s Melco Crown Entertainment (MCE) global resorts and casino brand. The short film is being produced by RatPac’s Brett Ratner and RSA’s Jules Daly.”
The statement continues: “Mr Packer and Mr Ho [co-chairmen of Melco Crown] are executive producing the ‘casino’ themed short film which features Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt. The script was written by Terry Winter. The film will premiere next year at the opening of Melco Crown’s newest movie themed resort ‘Studio City’ in Macau.”
The statement noted this is “an unprecedented collaboration” because it is the first time Messrs De Niro, Pitt and DiCaprio ever worked with Mr Scorsese together in the same film.
“Leonardo DiCaprio has done five films with Mr Scorsese and Robert De Niro has done eight with Mr Scorsese but never together,” it added.
