Casino firm Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd and the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau (UGAMM) jointly hosted the “Melco Simple Acts of Kindness– Elderly Got Talent” event in early November.

It took place at the City of Dreams complex and “attracted around 500 community members, including 16 groups and 11 performance teams,” stated the company in a press release.

The initiative aimed to “promote respect for the elderly, intergenerational harmony and social cohesion,” stated the firm.

Senior citizens and young people showcased a “variety of talents, including singing, dancing, songs in sign language, lotus tai chi fan performances, and drama, presenting a diverse and engaging programme that vividly embodied the core spirit of inclusion and diversity,” Melco Resorts added.

Lawrence Ho Yau Lung, Melco Resorts’ chairman and chief executive, said in prepared remarks: “It is both joyful and inspiration to see our elderly [people] and youth so full of energy, working together in unity, with perseverance and purpose, and taking this opportunity to come together to have fun and enjoy themselves.”

He added: “We are privileged to be co-hosting the ‘Elderly Got Talent’ event in collaboration with UGAMM now for the second year running, and we look forward to further collaborations to work hand in hand in serving the community.”

Chan Ka Leong, director-general of UGAMM said, his organisation would “continue to deepen its cooperation” with Melco Resorts, “expanding into more diversified intergenerational projects”.

“Population ageing is a global concern and a significant challenge facing Macau. Promoting a culture of respect for the elderly and fostering intergenerational harmony requires not only improved policies and facilities but also a stronger connection of values and emotions,” stated Mr Chan.

He added that the collaboration with Melco Resorts “aimed to create an equal, open, and shared platform where seniors and young people of different ages can perform together, demonstrating teamwork, breaking down age barriers through art, and promoting intergenerational exchange through cooperation”.
