Macau casino operator Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd has organised a series of activities for the elderly and those in need in the Macau community, to mark the Mid-Autumn season in October. The activities were carried out via the firm’s “Simple Acts of Kindness” initiative.
“Together with the company’s community partners, over 100 Melco colleague volunteers and their families and children dedicated 105 hours to the local community, delivering love and festive joy to 340 community beneficiaries through a series of activities,” stated the casino concessionaire in a recent announcement.
Those benefitting from the effort included the elderly, children, young adults and healthcare patients, stated the company.
The casino firm said it “continued to encourage volunteers” to take part in such activities with their children, under the group’s “Teaching Children Values” programme.
Events carried out during this year’s Mid-Autumn season included: a visit to the patients of Kiang Wu Hospital Hospice and Palliative Care Center, in collaboration with young volunteers from Macao Borderless Youth Association; and a visit to the Pou Tai Integrated Service Center for Elderly.
In celebration of Mid-Autumn, Melco volunteers also organised a festive lantern-making workshop for over 30 special needs students from Concordia School for Special Education.

On the actual day of the Mid-Autumn Festival (October 6), another group of Melco volunteers spent “a joyful afternoon” with around 80 elderly residents of Asilo Vila Madalena in Coloane.
They shared “Chinese tea sets, festive gifts, and mooncakes whilst also playing games with the beneficiaries,” as per the update.
Cherry Lei, dean of Asilo Vila Madalena, said in prepared remarks: “We are grateful for the Melco volunteer team’s visit and for bringing a warm and memorable afternoon to our elderly residents during the Mid-Autumn Festival.
“Not only did the team prepare a sumptuous Chinese afternoon tea for everyone, but a series of interactive games and exciting programmes were also thoughtfully arranged, together with the presentation of festive gifts,” she added.
