Hong Kong-listed Macau casino operator MGM China Holdings Ltd said in a Monday press release it had been included in the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Benchmark Index for the fourth consecutive year.

The casino firm said it had also been selected as a constituent of the Hang Seng ESG 50 Index, “which recognises the top 50 best-in-class environmental, social and governance (ESG) performers among approximately 500 listed companies”.

MGM China stated it earned an “A” rating in the latest sustainability assessment, remaining “the only integrated resort operator in Macau to be named to both indices”.

“These continued recognitions reflect MGM China’s strategic and impactful sustainability initiatives,” said the company in Monday’s announcement.

MGM China runs the MGM Macau casino resort on the city’s peninsula, and the MGM Cotai property in Macau’s Cotai district.

Kenneth Feng Xiaofeng, president and executive director of MGM China, said in prepared remarks: “With sustainability embedded in our business DNA, we are proud to be the only integrated resort operator in Macau named to both the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Benchmark Index and the ESG 50 Index for the fourth consecutive year.”

He added: “This recognition affirms our relentless pursuit of excellence in environmental stewardship, stakeholder well-being, and innovation. We will continue to build on this momentum to lead the way in shaping a more responsible and resilient future for Macau and the [Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau] Greater Bay Area.”

The index that MGM China has joined is part of the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index Series, said to provide an objective and reliable benchmark for sustainability-related investments.

According to the casino concessionaire, only the top 20 percent of securities-issuers with the highest sustainability performance score can be selected as constituents of the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Benchmark Index. Review for the assessment is conducted annually and by invitation only.

The seven aspects rated by the assessment framework are said to include: corporate governance, human rights, labour practices, environment, fair operating practices, consumer issues, and community involvement and development.
