As of Monday, a number of luxury hotels in Macau casino resorts was already indicating no availability of rooms for any of the five nights covering mainland China’s five-day Labour Day holiday season.
That is according to checks of the hotels’ own reservation sites by GGRAsia.
China’s State Council has designated this year’s Labour Day holidays on the mainland as May 1, a Thursday, to May 5, a Monday, inclusive. May 1 – which is Labour Day proper – is also known as ‘May Day’.
As of this Monday (April 21), a total of 15 out of 33 local luxury hotel towers – most of them establishments at Cotai casino resorts – were indicating all five nights of the break as sold out. GGRAsia’s search focused on a standard room or suite – with either a king bed or two beds – accommodating two adults.
Luxury hotels indicating no rooms for any of the nights included: Grand Lisboa, the Macau peninsula flagship property of SJM Holdings Ltd; the hotel at MGM Macau on the city’s peninsula, as well as MGM Cotai’s M Tower, Emerald Tower and Skylofts, all accommodation run by MGM China Holdings Ltd; and The Grand Suites at Four Seasons in Cotai, promoted by Sands China Ltd.
Also full for the upcoming holiday were: Wynn Macau and Wynn Palace, both run by Wynn Macau Ltd; plus Galaxy Hotel, Banyan Tree Macau, Hotel Okura Macau, JW Marriott Hotel Macau, The Ritz-Carlton, Macau, and Raffles at Galaxy Macau, as well as Andaz Macau, all located at Cotai casino resort complex Galaxy Macau, run by Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd.
Luxury hotels within casino resorts indicating no rooms publicly available for four out of the five festive nights in included the suite-only Star Tower in Studio City, a Cotai property run by Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd.
Also full for four out of five nights were: The Venetian Macao and The Four Seasons Hotel Macao; the next-door Parisian Macao and Paiza Lofts; and The Conrad Macao at The Londoner Macao, all Cotai hotel brands promoted by Sands China.
Nightly rates for the still-available hotel rooms or suites in Cotai for the Labour Day holiday season ranged from approximately MOP1,000 (US$125) at the low end, up to more than MOP20,000, excluding taxes and other service charges, as of GGRAsia’s Monday checks. The luxury hotel room rates indicated a peak on the second and third day of the five-day break, with the minimum price close to MOP4,000 a night.
Sands China’s Londoner Macao resort complex houses most of the Cotai suites priced at the higher end of daily-rate range: from above MOP10,000 to as much as MOP22,898 per night for the first three days of the Labour Day break. Those Cotai suites are respectively at The Londoner Hotel, Londoner Court, and Londoner Grand. The latter is a new accommodation offer that replaced the former Sheraton Macao hotel.
