Okada Foundation Inc says it has donated “new, high-tech medical equipment” to the Philippine Orthopedic Center. The donation was part of Okada Foundation’s PHP500-million (US$8.6-million) commitment to the country’s Department of Health, according to a recent press release.
Okada Foundation is the corporate social responsibility arm of the Okada Manila casino resort in the Philippine capital.
The foundation donated “two state-of-the-art medical devices” to the Philippine Orthopedic Center, namely a “Robotic Gait Trainer with Orthosis” and the “Arm and Hand Exoskeleton Robotic Trainer”, the latter described as “the first of its kind in the Philippines”.
The announcement cited Raul Cembrano (pictured, left), chief of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the Philippine Orthopedic Center, as saying that the two rehabilitation machines would help treat at least 16 patients per day.
“At the Philippine Orthopedic Center, we don’t just focus on physical rehabilitation – we also work closely with local communities to help patients reintegrate into society,” Dr Cembrano added.
The Philippine Orthopedic Center is described as a leading facility specialising in the treatment of orthopedic, musculoskeletal, and neuromuscular conditions. It is also the country’s major referral centre for spinal injuries.
James Lorenzana (pictured, right), president of the Okada Foundation, said in prepared remarks: “We take great care in consulting with hospitals to understand their needs, and we strive to provide top-of-the-line equipment that will have a lasting impact.”
“Assisting the health sector is one of the mission pillars of the Okada Foundation,” stated Mr Lorenzana.
“The Okada Foundation hopes that its efforts will strengthen and help stabilise the health sector,” he added. “We will continue to work closely with government agencies, healthcare providers, and local communities to improve access to care, especially in areas that need it most.”
