The Okada Foundation Inc, the charitable arm of the Okada Manila casino resort in the Philippine capital, has donated PHP3 million (US$116,500) to the Asian Cultural Council Philippines Foundation Inc (ACCPFI).
The donation aims to support Filipino artists and scholars participating in international artistic exchange programmes, according to an announcement.
The contribution assists Filipinos from the creative sector in taking a six-month residency abroad, in order to benefit from “mentorship, collaboration, and cultural exchange with global peers”.
James Lorenzana (pictured centre, left), Okada Foundation president, made the donation at a meeting with Josie Natori (pictured centre, right), chair of the Asian Cultural Council, held at Okada Manila. The Asian Cultural Council was set up in 1963.
Mr Lorenzana was quoted as saying: “Our contribution to the Asian Cultural Council Philippines Foundation helps sustain programmes that open doors for Filipino artists to participate in international residencies and collaborative exchanges.”
He added: “Through this support, we hope to empower more Filipino creatives to represent the Philippines on the global stage.”
The ACCPFI marks its 25th anniversary this year. Per the update, it has supported generations of Filipino artists.
“Through fellowships, grants, and international exchanges,” the ACCPFI “continues to provide Filipino creatives with opportunities to share their work globally while contributing to the country’s cultural landscape,” said the statement.
The donation was under the guidance of Okada Green Heart, Okada Manila’s sustainability and community engagement programme under its ‘Talent and Community’ pillar.
It supports initiatives that promote “individual growth, cultural development, and meaningful community connections”.
