The Okada Manila casino resort in the Philippine capital has reported progress in environmental and social initiatives, including eliminating up to 2 million plastic bottles last year, according to its 2025 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) report.

The casino group said the results were achieved under its “Okada Green Heart” programme, which consolidates the property’s sustainability and corporate responsibility efforts. The latest report outlines initiatives spanning energy efficiency, waste reduction, community engagement, and responsible gaming.

Okada Manila is run by Tiger Resort, Leisure and Entertainment Inc, a unit of Japanese conglomerate Universal Entertainment Corp.

Among key environmental measures, Okada Manila highlighted the rollout of the Nordaq water system, enabling on-site bottling of filtered water. The initiative significantly reduced reliance on single-use plastics and logistics-related emissions, the property’s promoter stated.

The company also expanded energy efficiency measures during 2025, including the transition to LED lighting and optimisation of operational systems. It added that it had installed Entertainment City’s first electric vehicle charging station, supporting lower-emission transport options within the precinct.

Waste management efforts included food rescue programmes that recovered more than 2,800 kilograms of surplus food and redistributed over 9,000 meals to communities. The initiative also helped reduce carbon emissions linked to food waste, the firm said.

On the social front, Okada Manila reported continued investment in employee welfare and community programmes. Activities included medical and wellness support, environmental initiatives such as tree planting and coastal clean-ups, and training programmes aimed at strengthening operational safety and preparedness.

The casino firm also cited enhancements in its responsible gaming framework, covering the introduction of digital training modules and improved incident reporting systems.

Separately, Okada Foundation Inc, the group’s corporate social responsibility arm, continued to support programmes in food security, education, healthcare, and sports development. Initiatives included community nutrition efforts, digital learning partnerships, and support for Filipino athletes preparing for international competitions.

Okada Manila said its ESG strategy aligns with global sustainability frameworks and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, reflecting what it described as a “disciplined and evolving approach” to long-term value creation.

Nobuki Sato, president and chief operating officer of Okada Manila, said in prepared remarks that the group aimed to embed responsible practices more deeply across its operations while generating broader social impact.

“Through the Okada Green Heart programme, we are strengthening how responsible practices are embedded across our operations, while creating value that extends beyond business performance,” Mr Sato said. “As we move forward, we remain focused on advancing sustainability, innovation, and shared progress.”
